Job Description

The University of Mississippi Libraries seeks applicants for the position of Digital Assets Librarian, a twelve-month, tenure track, assistant professorship. The successful candidate will collaborate with library personnel in the management and promotion of the library’s unified digital assets platform, encompassing the digital collections as well as an institutional repository. Selected requirements include experience or familiarity with project management; knowledge of digital asset management systems; background with the processing, description, and integration of various analog, digital and born-digital materials; as well as an understanding of digital preservation. Strong communication, collaboration and management skills are essential.

Job Responsibilities:
• Report to the Head of Metadata & Digital Initiatives
• Work with a team in the planning and implementation of an institutional repository
• Participate in outreach efforts to promote the library’s unified digital platform
• Follow best practices for processing and describing collections
• Devise scanning workflows and metadata schema appropriate to various formats
• Collaborate with library staff and supervise interns and/or student workers
• Investigate, plan and manage format conversions and migrations
• Seek grant funding for digital initiatives
• Meet departmental and university tenure and promotion standards for fulfillment of professional responsibilities, scholarship, and service

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
• Master’s degree from ALA accredited institution by date of appointment
• Experience or familiarity working on digital projects, including the digitization of multiple formats
• Demonstrated ability to plan, implement, and manage effective digital programs
• Experience or familiarity with current and emerging technologies in digital library services
• Experience or familiarity with digital library products, such as CONTENTdm or Digital Commons
• Working knowledge of non-MARC metadata schema, such as Dublin Core
• Working knowledge of controlled vocabulary and thesauri creation and maintenance
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
