Job Description

This position manages daily operations for the Office of Professional Development. The incumbent coordinates training schedules, provides supervision and guidance to professional development staff, creates training materials, develops procedures and protocol, evaluates program effectiveness, manages program budgets, and collaborates with various agencies to determine training needs and promote professional development initiatives across the state. This position works in conjunction with the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) and North MS Education Consortium.

Job Responsibilities

Manages day-to-day operations of the Office of Professional Development.

Communicates with the Mississippi Department of Education and Regional Education Service Agency (RESA) concerning program initiatives and activities.

Assists with any revisions to state policy regarding district professional development plans.

Manages scheduling and advertisement of regional training conducted by the MS Department of Education.

Completes annual evaluations and provides guidance where improvement is needed.

Develops and implements new technology content into professional learning initiatives.

Creates reports outlining training completed and determines effectiveness using quantitative and qualitative measures.

Collaborates with key educational partners and stakeholders to determine long term professional development needs.

Consults with special education experts on professional development design, development and integration.

Reviews applications, hires, trains, and evaluates contract employees across various content areas.

Assists MDE with budget facilitation of contract employees.

Explores, designs and implements alternative methods to deliver professional development.

Stays abreast of professional developments related to the training programs through research and attending seminars and/or conferences.

Performs similar or related duties as assigned or required.

Essential Functions
These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring Department.

1. Manages and evaluates professional development activities and program effectiveness.

2. Provides supervision and guidance to professional development staff.

3. Explores, designs and implements alternative methods to deliver professional development.

4. Creates training and development materials.

5. Develops and sustains communication and partnerships.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Master’s Degree in Education, or a related field from an accredited college or university.

AND

Experience:
Four (4) years of experience related to the above described duties.

Licensure:
Current Mississippi Educator’s License.

Substitution Statement: Related experience may be substituted for education, on a basis set forth and approved by the Department of Human Resources.
