Job Description

The School of Business Administration at the University of Mississippi invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Management at our main campus in Oxford, Mississippi, at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor to begin in August, 2018. This position will provide teaching and service to Haley Barbour Center for Manufacturing Excellence (http://www.cme.ms/) and the business school. The Haley Barbour Center for Manufacturing Excellence (CME) is an innovative, interdisciplinary undergraduate program serving students majoring in engineering, accounting, and business program. The person that we hire will be given the opportunity to develop a dynamic hands-on program that challenges students to create businesses and innovative processes to power the economy. CME faculty have the opportunity to actively develop curricula, advise student project teams, and interact with CME’s private sector partners including Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.

The Management department at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) has seen a notable improvement in the quality of its publications in recent years. Our faculty are part of international editorial boards and the leadership for the Southern Management Association. In the last five years, our faculty have published in Academy of Management Review, Academy of Management Journal, Strategy Management Journal, Journal of Management, and Organization Science. Incoming faculty would be expected to continue this productivity and can expect robust support to do so.

The University of Mississippi is situated in Oxford, MS, an extraordinarily livable city (www.oxfordms.com/) featuring all that is best about living in the South. Oxford is a one-hour drive south of Memphis, TN and is known as the home of Nobel Prize winning author William Faulkner. Oxford has also been featured as a literary and arts destination in such publications as The New York Times, Southern Living, Condé Nast Traveler, and GQ. Among other cultural activities, annual events include the Oxford Film Festival, a thriving local music scene, and the Ford Center Performing Arts Series. Salary for this position is competitive while the cost of living in Oxford is particularly low (e.g., approximately 38% lower than the Washington, DC area).

Job Responsibilities

Teach assigned courses at the undergraduate, MBA, and/or PhD level(s), conduct research aimed toward top-tier journals, and to provide service to the university and the profession. The normal teaching load for this position for a research-active faculty member is 2/2 (6 credit hours per semester, Fall and Spring) with the option to teach summer courses and/or online courses for additional pay subject to course and funding availability.

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered for this position, the applicant must have an earned doctorate degree (or hold ABD status with expected degree completion prior to August 2018) from an AACSB accredited or well-regarded program in Management, preferably in Strategic Management or Entrepreneurship. Applicants should possess a proven track record of original research and publication in quality/recognized management journals, and must provide evidence of a strong commitment to scholarship, effective teaching, and service.
